Kool & the Gang, officially formed in 1969, is an iconic group known for songs like "Celebration," "Cherish," "Jungle Boogie," "Summer Madness," and "Open Sesame." They have won two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, and produced 31 gold or platinum-certified albums. With an uninterrupted career, they hold the record for the longest active R&B group. Their music has influenced hip-hop, making them one of the most sampled groups, second only to James Brown. The group, formed by Ronald "Khalis" Bell and Robert "Kool" Bell with friends from their neighborhood in Jersey City, blends jazz, soul, and funk. Their 1973 album, *Wild & Peaceful*, propelled them to stardom with classics like "Jungle Boogie." The 1980s marked their dominance with hits like "Celebration," "Cherish," and "Ladies' Night." In 2018, they were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2019, they celebrated their 50th anniversary with numerous accolades, including a street being renamed in their honor and the induction of Celebration into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
