It tells the story of Jean Gavache, a young tailor working for Monseigneur de Guillonnet, a magistrate in Bordeaux. Jean's life is going well; he is even madly in love with his employer's daughter. But one day, on the banks of the Peugue River, he meets Master Jacotin, the sorcerer, who makes him a very curious prediction...</p>
